Hi folks,
Took the tired old 3.5 v8 out of my 88 range rover classic. Question now is, do I drop in another v8 or go for the 200 or 300tdi with autobox? My old v8 was set up to run on lpg and though the stuff is relatively cheap and so easy on the wallet, a couple of friends running tdi's tell me that with the mad traffic involved in urban driving (which is what I mostly do), they spend less on diesel a week than I do on lpg. Best I've ever done is about 60km of run-arounds on 14 liters of lpg. Has anyone out there converted their RR classic to the tdi engines and what are the performance and fuel consumption figures? The v8 never broke any land speed records, but can the tdi's hold up against the other diesel powered SUV's on the highway?

Stick with the v8 man.diesel is slow even though a bit cheaper to run....petrol price once go up once go down. The feeling of the engine always stays the same....

bit cheaper :hysterically_laughi

mate has a 4.6 v8 90 i have a 200tdi 90 on a full days laning i use about £20 on fuel if i have a very heavy foot. he uses about £60 to do exactly the same only real differance his sounds better (oh and he spends much more time changing from high to low box )

Petrol= bit more poke especially on road, much nicer sound.
Diesel = OK off road, but less on road performance. Also less money on fuel. Less money on spark-plugs. Less money on HT leads etc. Less money on head/engine rebuilds.
So use the saved money to put in a stereo to compensate for lack of exhaust-music when spending the extra 30secs travelling between red lights!

Gt land great answer even though a V8 is a good off roader also. most people thing that diesels are free to run with no expenses....when a diesel engine is broken then your are ****ed up. That they sound and smell like **** nobody says that.ok they less expesive to run on a daily basis but what the he'll.....life is short.at least I enjoy every minute I drive my V8 car.

Last time i was in Cyprus diesel was 13p a litre so it was virtually free to run one. Take it that it has gone up a bit.:D:D

talking with some saudies the other day, diesel 10p a litre , petrol 20p. that current prices

The dont like the cost of running there cars whilst there here :p
