L322 Petrol in TD6....

(hope you understand me, as i am not english)

Hi all
Big big mistake.
I puted petrol in the tank (about 25liters ~7galons) when fuel tank was almost reaching low level (light didnt lit though), not noticed that and run for about 50km (-30miles)....well, i heard engine slightly rattling but not connected to the fuel - never imagined would have done such mistake.
Of course the engine at some time started to rattle harder.
Phone my mechanic and he told me to put 1liter of oil in the tank and topping up with diesel, not letting the fuel tank pass below 75% topping up again. By now engine dosent rattle, but next week car will go to the shop.
But now computer is reading around 16L/100km (about 18mpg) when it used to be 14L/100km (20mpg)...might i harmed something?

Once your mechanic drains the all petrol from your fuel system, replaces fuel filter, refills with diesel, and runs diesel all through your fuel system, you'll be good to go.

I'm not into diesels but the fact that yours ran for 30 miles on petrol would give me confidence … sounds like you have a multi-fuel power unit

Hopefully no lasting damage has been done & I bet you don't make the same mistake twice!

It’ll certainly have helped burn off some carbon deposits

look like a bi-fuel....but just only for that time. Will not repeat it no more!!
And hope no harm done to fuel system nor engine..

Well, i just wonder why the computer now reads about 18mpg when before would read 20mpg...

(have to change my picture...replace the P38 for the L322)

No lasting damage, just keep filling with diesel, no need to drain, it will be fine IMO.

I can remember putting 10pc petrol in derv tanks during winter, before anti-gel additives were introduced by the oil companies.

Yep, still needed when it gets very cold as the anti waxing is not always present at the start of winter.

Mate of mine has a 300tdi disco puts 500ml 2 stroke oil in every full tank fill up, he swears by it says it replaces the lubricating properties of the sulphur

Just left the l322 in the shop for servicing.
Hope to get good news from my mechanic soon...

No issues at all....
Meanwhile mechanic rung me and told me everything is allright!!
Serviced filters and oils (engine, gear box, transmission and diferentials)

there is nothing worse than petrol in the diffs.

I'm guessing the higher fuel consumption is because the petrol/oil/diesel mix is less fuel efficient so will burn quicker. If the engine didn't already go bang then you should be ok.

It's the FIP that will suffer due to the lack of lubrication when run on petrol.

Worth using an additive like injector cleaner or something for a bit to restore lubrication?

Aye, Renault used a pump coated with teflon and if you put petrol in, the teflon came away and clogged the injectors.

Not a great day out putting petrol in a diesel in general
