Hi all,

My 2004Disco Td5 has been filled with petrol, 60L of 100L tank.
Unbeknown to me I drove for 12km before parking it up as it was not running right and I noticed the fuel pump was noisy.
Parked up and have drained the tank and replaced the filter.

Can anyone tell me what damage may have been done to engine etc

Was the other 40l empty or diesel (ie did it run on neat petrol or a 60/40 mixture of petrol/diesel)
I did the same but only drove it for a couple of km, with a roughly 40/60 mix - advice at the time was to flush the entire fuel system, which I had done professionally.
If you are in the AA they have specific patrols equipped for this - the van carries all the flushing equipment - they reckoned anything more than 10 to 15% petrol in diesel was flushing territory.

IGP50,

Thanks for the reply.

It was a 60/40 mix.

I took out the fuel pump and mopped out the tank after draining the tank.
I havehad the fuel regulator off and cleaned out as much of the petrol as possible.
What a job!!

Fill it with diesel. Run the purge cycle several times to flush the lines. So long as your engine is not making any funny noises you probably have got away with it. Only problem may be that the petrol could cause some injector O rings to swell up if you have non OEM ones fitted anywhere. I run 10% petrol in my diesel during the winter months with no problems.

Thanks for the advise. I have run the purge cycle several times and have run it.

All good. The engine is running perfectly again.

Thanks ever so much for your help,

Hi Shifty. Just curios. What's the reason for running 10% petrol in your diesel during winter?

Thanks. A lot of well reputed servos over here sell Alpine Diesel during winter. I assume it would have an additive that stops waxing....Rgds Scotty.

As per previous answer. It makes starting in the cold weather much easier. It's something I was taught many moons ago when driving heavies and has just become habit now. I've also heard that the North Sea fisherman also use petrol or heating oil for the same reason. Saves building a fire under the tank as well :D Sorry for late response but been on hols to Cornwall for the past week.
