As the post suggest every now again then front offside smells of something burnt. I had an inspection and there was a drop of oil on the bottom of the oil filter?

This smell/taste doesn't to happen in sync with anything else.

I thought that it may be an oil leak onto a hot pipe in that area, but after my 'simple' inspection I don't see anything.

All Comments welcome, apart fromt those ripping Freelanders, but I bet they'll come anyway!

Kind Regards,
Stefan.

Coulda been worse you could have titled your thread " Why does my Freelander stink?"

Bit worried about the taste bit

On a serious note have you checked your oil level ?
Does it smell like burnt oil ?
Have you recently had a new exhuast ?
Have you looked to see if there is anything stuck to the exhaust ?

Cats like to get up into engine bays sometimes

Just had new belts replaced, all of them. I don't think I have a FBH actually, it takes years to heat the cabin up on a cold day and plus it's an L series XeDi. I could burn the Freelander it would make these cold spring mornings more comfortable, but the journey to work may take some time. lol

I checked the oil level it seems normal. I just gave the thing a full service. One last thing to do is the coolant.

Stefan. I'll check the cat out.

check the position of the plastic inner guard behind the front offside wheel. usually, these get put back wrong and cause a rubbing sound from one of the pulleys. if put back really wrong, it could potentially rub on the pulley and melt, causing a strange periodic burning smell...
