pedal travel brakes

:welcome2:hi all , looking for best advice on bleeding the brakes . i have a 4.6 v8 petrol vogue 2000 model with thor engine . the brakes are really **** theres about 4-6 inches of travel on the pedal before they kick in and then i have to double pump them sometimes . im really wary as i know with 2 ton their not efective enough .can anyone tell me the correct procedure to sort them , does the engine need to be on i.e. abs pump ? and where to start and finish . the rear brake pads were changed and front were ok . there is no leaks on any calipers ..i would really appreciate any advice . cheers in anticipation ... mozz

Look at threads on faulty accumulators, yours may not be holding pressure. Lots of other possibilities of course.

You have problem get someone who knows what they are doing to look at them. The bleeding procedure is totally opposite to that which would be regarded as normal. If you must do it yourself, get a copy of RAVE and read up on it. Follow it to the letter. Sounds like your brake lines are full of air.
