Hi all

Had a Freelander for 4 years now, love it but we've got a sprog on the way...

Brought a great travel system with a rear facing car seat cabrio thing and unfortunately, the rear seat belts in the car aren't long enough to go round the car seat. Damn!

So plan B is that we put the car seat in the front and in order to do that, we need to deactivate the passenger airbag. Anyone know whether that's possible? I've read on the web that some cars have on-off switched fitted for this very purpose, not sure whether this is something the Landy has or whether it can be retro-fitted. Any help gratefully received...

Thanks
Richard

Hi the passenger airbag has no deativation switch fitted and not a good idea to disconnect dont forget it also has pretensioner that have charges in,the easy option would be to change your car seat i had a gracco car seat from mother care but it had this great base that stayed in the car and seat belt stayed on it and you just liffted the seat carrier of so never waking baby and that just sat on push chair,my advise isnot to play about with your life and childrens life having someone alter how a safety devise is suposed to work hope this helps tiga

Hiya Tiga

Thanks for the reply. The Gracco sounds like an option, it's either that or changing the car which seems a bit drastic! It's just that we've bought the SilverCross travel system that we really like, so we're loathed to either get rid or change it for another.

Like you say, messing about with safety devices isn't a bright idea and we wouldn't go near it unless it was being done by Landrover technicians. Given that so many cars seem to have the deactivation key these days, we wondered whether anyone had had a key fitted retrospectively. I suppose I could always give Landrover a ring to find out!

Thanks
Richard
