I'm looking at replacing the front discs/pads and the drag link ball joint on my 2001 td5 es, as they were given as advisories on the recent MOT. My question is whether there is any noticeable difference in the parts that are purchased. Just been looking on Prancers site and the discs vary from £45 - £25 each and the pads also from £45 - £12. There are also two drag link ball joints listed one at £12.50 and one at £5.50.
Although very tempting to go for the cheapest, I just wondered if there was any major differences or is it just marketing by brand names that bumps the prices up.

it depends who makes the cheaper ones. sometimes they are made out of blutac and spit and other times they are as good as or better than the originals.

bearings for instance can be made by GKN but if it comes in a bag with 'Landrover' written on it , it will be more expensive than the same bearing in a bag with 'GKN' on it.

if in doubt and its a saftey critical part opt fer the named one,. even then you can have fakes with name stuck on to make em look real.

they are stories of britpart discs failing after a few miles so i'd stay clear of them.
