Hi Everyone

I've only just noticed I don't have a parking brake light (TD5 110) (taken me a year to notice ).

I've had the gaiter off the hand brake and there is a switch there but no wires attached and none in the vicinity. Does anyone know how to wire it up? Is it simply a case of connecting the switch to the light in the binnacle or does it need power etc? I can't seem to find a wiring diagram suitable for an idiot anywhere.

Cheers!

Chris

The light in the binnacle supply’s the power, and the switch supply’s the earth. So when the handbrake is applied, the light illuminates (also shared with brake low fluid warning).

I don’t know of a wiring diagram, but @mystery usually has things like that. You could check out @Retroanaconda website for how to wire up TD5 binnacle to older defenders, as this has a brilliant library of what connections go to what, and what is used to illuminate the lights.

Thats great Scooby. Cheers.
So in terms a simpleton can understand, there should be a wire going from the switch to the "header". Is the header the panel in the binnacle? I looked at the diagram on Retroanaconda's site and can see where the wiring is supposed to go on the small plug (number 14).

Is that where its supposed to go? from the switch directly to the plug?

Sorry - I'm an absolute imbecile when it comes to anything electrical!!

The yellow wire from header (socket) behind facia to the hand brake swith, I bet the wire is somewhere under seat base and has been disconnected because the hand brake light was staying on, due to the lever springing up slightly and not hitting the switch, (very common)

Cheers Scooby.

No sign of the yellow wire under threw seat anywhere. I had the binnacle out to look for a yellow wire but couldn't see one (light was fading a bit so will check again tomorrow).

I removed the lid from the brake fluid header and the brake light came on so I know it works! Will investigate further tomorrow.

Cheers again.

ps on the upside, I managed to fix my clock whilst the binnacle was out :)
