Parking aid problem!

Just read another short thread regarding this issue but there didn't seem to be a conclusion to the fault.The thread was 3 years old ;)
Basically today when I selected reverse I got a long beeeep noise followed by the P aid button flashing ! Then the sensors don't work..... Any solution is it just a sensor dying?

Are the sensors covered by dirt?
Mine are working much better since I gave my hippo a hose down last week.
Mine are a after market part though I think
 
Almost the same happened today on the wife's Td4 2005 selected reverse and instead of the usual long bleep this time it bleeped several times with the switch flashing also. Cleaned the sensors as they were very dirty and everything working fine again
