Hi guys

Well after four weeks trouble free I have a brand new problem

My fatty has been running fine up to last Monday

Switched over to sport mode and it didn’t work, so left well alone as it is booked in for a service next week

This morning put key in got all the usual lights, turned key and nothing!

Tried it with spare key and nothing

Shifted gears back and forth tried again and nothing, it’s like it’s dead

Got my friendly AA man round and he has diagnosed it as being the park Neutral gear box switch has failed so the car thinks it’s in gear and won’t start the engine.

He cleared fault and I got it to the garage.

Got in touch with Euros and they said it’s a main dealer part. So called them and they have told me it’s not a replaceable item and I need to buy the whole gear stick assembly.

Anyone know a simple fix for this that doesn’t involve me remortgaging my house

Picture of AA diagnostic attached

Thanks in advance

Isn't "Upshift/Downswitch" more suggestive of a steering wheel gearchange "Paddle" switch rather than PDNR selector?
Don't know what version of Rangie you have so I can't really help, Sorry.

Interesting they put the “normal/performance switch” as a last look at to fix.

The link make interesting reading

The aa guy said my upshift is due to the neutral safety switch gone

I’ve found a complete gear lever assembly on flea bay

Gonna talk to garage Monday and see what they suggest

Thanks for the comments guys

Hi all
So car back from garage had a whole new gear shift assembly fitted to the tune of 500 quid which has solved the starting problem

However I still have no sport mode and if I shift the stick up and down i get transmission error

Any ideas as it’s got my Indy baffled to the point he is ringing round other indies

Thanks

Paul

Ps I got a brand new main dealer part opposed to a second hand

Update

Car won’t start this morning all lights up so power ok

Put key in and nothing

Getting fault code P0850(62) and U0248(87)

Can anyone help

Neutral switch and a loss of comms fault would suggest some bad wiring, probably a loose/corroded earth strap somewhere.

First thing I would try is a jump lead from battery negative terminal to a clean metallic point on the gearbox and/or engine and/or chassis and see if that makes any difference.
Also, check that your battery is in absolutely tip top condition.
Range rovers are notorious for throwing up all sorts of problems when battery gets a bit weak or discharged.

Just Called aa out when I got home from work
He got in it and it started first time
He said he thinks it’s a wiring harness to gear stick assembly issue and the wires are breaking down when cool, car sits in sun all day and warms up making a circuit
Got it back to garage and they going to start testing
Battery is brand new last month

Renault went through a phase of buying cheap wire for their cars. It would break I side the insulation and cause no end of miscommunication errors and so called dead components.... Cheap a4se barstuards... It's a shame you cant test it yourself..or can you? Do you own a multi meter or DVM as it's known in some threads??

Unfortunately I know nothing about 12v electrics
Happy doing the simple stuff brakes servicing etc but I wouldn’t know one of a tester from the other mate
It’s in the garage now so hoping they can find it

Does anyone have the gearbox wiring diagram they could share?

Damn shame, how about a night course? Do they still have them? Possibly RAVE? ...

The Park/Neutral switch in the 6HP26 is part of the Mechatronic unit, not the gear lever assembly

Might be worth checking the Mechatronic connector?
