Paranoid about noises? Arnie sounds different every time I drive him..

What better to do when its raining than think about the different noises the 300tdi makes on a daily basis? I need something to worry about you see.... :)

Mine seems rattlier some days, smooth others, but never as nice as other peoples, so heres a video for you to listen to :) Does it sound tappety to you? Or like its blowing a gasket somewhere?



Here's also a pic of the top of the manifold gasket - just grime on the join there?

And a picture of the dog - nothing wrong with him, other than the fact he can't judge the size of that stick :)

I got bored, and stood in the rain, doing the tappets.... Despite the fact I had them done at a garage less than 6 months ago, there was only one I didn't need to adjust!
 
Being a relatively new Defender owner (nine months), I constantly seem to hear new and varied sounds.
Can be worrying if you're not overly mechanically minded, like me.
 
I used to be like that. Especially after driving a car. Iv rebuilt mine and it still squeaks bangs and rattles at times. Normally when I think it's feeling smooth it breaks. It dosent help iv new engine mounts on which are harder. Long journeys and going away in it normally puts my mind at rest, same as greasing the ujs and checking the levels when I can be bothered. Tho I fine with really. Good luck.
