paint follow on fred

after previous freds on painting and lots of good advice and tips ive now decided its a respray time

main reason for this is altough the landy has been resprayed a couple of years ago i have no idea what white colour they used so just trying to match the 2 doors to the rest of the landy would be a big heartache

my friend and i have gone halfs on a complete compressor and spraying set from a bodyshop that has upgraded their kit .and we have a lockup to carry out the spraying in

couple of issues i would like some help with if you can

1)if i etch prime the alloy doors do i have to put normal primer over the top of the etch primer?

2)anyone know how many litres of paint i would need to do a 90

3)should i go for 2 pack paint or what would you suggest i use(we dont have an oven to bake the paint)

4)and finally i cant make me bloody mind up on colour i have thought about matt black but have been told i will need to put a couple of coats of laquer on it to stop it scratching easy

sorry for all the qs but this is a big step and if i fook it up it could be disastrous so any pointers/ tips/advice would be greatly recieved

Yes, you'll probably want to put a couple of coats of Bodyfill primer on, with a fine rub-down between each one, to fill any surface imperfections.

2.5 Litres of top-coat should be plenty.

2 Pack is nasty stuff. I use Synthetic - 75% paint, 15% thinners and 10% 2k hardeners. It seems to harden off pretty quickly and leaves a good finish.

Matt Black looks crap IMHO. Defenders should be blue or green - it's the law.

cheers t just what i was after

First of all you need to give everything a good rub down with 220s, also removing any corrision that is on the body work. Then you have to spray a Filliform corrision resistant primer to the bare spots. Then apply one cross coat of Cromate free primer, leave to dry for approx 60 min. then apply one light coat of polyuratane paint leave to dry for around 40 min, then apply the top coat.

I hope that you can get hold of these materials, iam in the aircraft industry and the paint which we use is the best there is. I have sprayed things for myself 10 years ago and they are still like new after being outside all this time . One word of advise, use the right spraying mask as these materials are very dangerous.
