hey all, i was cleaning out my 1997 4.6 this afternoon then i started trying to coax it to go into low range the engine was running, after say 20 mins i couldnt get it to start was turning over barely and battery volts read 12.2 then 9 when cranking over, i noticed the battery is very old so got a new one from halfords, i even used wires to give the terminals a constant 12v feed, new battery fitted and you would think all well.. well it wont fire, turns over grand , no eka lockout nothing like that no check engine, just wont fire, anyone have anyideas ? becm out of sync ?
i dont have the eka code but should get it touch the battery terminals when disconneted to wipe the ecu and start again ? or is it an imobiliser fault ?
any ideas are very welcome , cheers in advance

Check engine light is not coming on? Definately sounds out of sync to me.

no check engine light at all, i just checked every fuse and relay all grand, seems either no fuel or no spark i think no fuel, is plenty in it, but i dont smell it flodded, bloddy pain of a thing, any ideas on how to re sync ?

Diagnostic only i believe. Can come out to you, but would be £1 a mile from my postcode KY8 3HG, so would be a lot cheaper if you can get someone in the Glasgow area. What you could try is jump the Fuel Pump relay so your getting fuel then see if she will fire, if its not synced you won't get a spark so it wont start. If your really stuck send me a PM and i'll nip over.

£1 a mile? whats this ebay

the reason i think its no fuel, is there a valve like a bike tyre valve and when i push it no pressure and no fuel like it should be primed with a vaccum pump this is left side off inlet manifold, thanks for the offer mate

hey exactly i dont mind paying at all, thoough i`d be cheaper buying own syncmate, a just dont get why the voltage dropping to 9volts would knock it out, should be a stronger system than that

Might not have been the battery voltage could of been interferance, i've had 2 P38s do this at the same time and had to be resynced. £1 a mile is one way by the way £60, im sure Syncmates are around the £130 mark.;)

If the engine is cranking over then a resync isn't needed, unless it's the diesel.

On the Gems, when ignition key is position 2, the check engine light should appear on the bottom right on the binnacle. If this light isn't showing then the engine shouldn't crank.

Depends on the year Rick, later V8's crank but will not fire:)

its getting a spark just no fuel, it started first turn this morning ran for 2 mins then dead cut out wouldnt restart, i depressed fuel bleed valve on fuel rail and was dry,i`m now thinking could i have a chocked fuel filter, and with it sitting overnight some fuel has weeped through the blockage giving me enough to run it for a minute ?

Datatek, The gems engine won't crank if the Check Engine light doesn't appear. (Engine management housed in the box inbetween the battery & fuse box)

On the later Bosch System, the post 1999 thor engine, the engine will crank but not fire.
( engine management housed on under bonnet bulkhead, left side)

Thought that's what I said Rick, whereas you said it wouldn't crank. It's a 4.6 so I figured that was not going to be a Gems.
