Hi Guys,

Ive recently noticed a sort of wirring noise coming from my P38 on de-acceleration, there is no noise on acceleration nor constant moving just when slowing down. I know its not the brakes as the noise doesnt change when braking.

The noise come about after i had to tow a trailer to germany and bring a car back.

Im quite worried it could be a gear box related issue.

Has anyone else come across such a problem? im a little worried to drive it tbh as the last thing i want to do is cause any damage.

Ive checked all fluids and everything seems normal, and is a good colour so clean.

Regards

Rob.

its possibly diff or g/box! trouble is once you hear the noise the damage is done, question is how much damage? it will certainly get worse with use but these can go on forever and not sound any worse!

Ye i was thinking it was gearbox due to the sound defo coming from below the cabin.

Im praying its not diff as only 8 months ago i paid out for a brand new rear diff/axle etc as it shreaded a spline. All the work was done by a Landrover/Rangerover specialist in the area.

Ill have to try and get it down there asap but my 2nd car isnt back from the garage until mid week! So its my only form of transport.

maybe transfer box and as far as i know the oil in there is checked via a plug in the side of it, not dip stick (if auto), thats just for g/box!

Well a slight turn for the worse. I just gave it a run to the petrol station and back (0.4miles each way) and as soon as i pull up on the driveway smoke started to release from under the bonnet!

Opened the bonnet and was a real strong smell of hydrolic fluid burning!

think thats answered the question of how long it may last! sorry to hear it! guessing its gearbox or transfer box.
