The video allows you to still open the tail gate if the boot switch fails its just another switch, central locking etc shouldn't be affected?

Not a lot of good then as it's the drivers door micro switch that usually fails.
Using a readily available FOB & transmitter, it's easy enough to bypass the drivers door micro switch and use a relay to operate the actuator.

Is this not the guy who showed people how to remove ball joints and did it by bending the axle ends? Just repair the standard system.

I think some people have a piece of wire / string as an emergency override?
Having watched the video, then I guess it gets you into the boot if the driver's door microswitch has failed, but a mechanical pull wd be more useful as this "override" switch still requires power to a working actuator. I won't be bothering with this myself.
