P38 steering drop arm

Hello all.

I'm new to owning a p38 and have a query regarding the steering. In the straight ahead position does the drop-arm from the steering box point straight ahead parallel with the direction of travel or is it angled to the off side? The reason I ask is that on full left lock the arm moves only to say, 11 oclock whereas on full right lock it goes to 2 oclock.

Any help would be good please even if it is to point out obvious stuff.

Have a look at RAVE, the drop arm should be centralised to the mark on the housing.

Wow, quick response. Thanks. But what is RAVE? And where are the marks?

RAVE is an online workshop manual. It is a very large file otherwise someone would offer to send it to you. The best advice is to search this forum for 'Rave download', that should take you to an external link from where you can download the file.

One you have it you will see that it is quite straightforward, broken down into sections for engine, cooling etc, just the same as a Haynes manual but much more comprehensive.
