p38 Sport alloys - Spare wheel?

I am in the process of upgrading from the standard 16" alloys to 19" Sport alloys. I understand that spigot spacers and new wheel nuts are required, but what is the general consensus on spare wheels? I only have 4 Sport alloys, so do I carry my original P38 spare + wheel nuts and hope that I can remove the spigot spacer or do I need to get a fifth Sport alloy? Does this alloy fit under the spare wheel cover? And finally, is there a noticeable rolling radius difference between the alloys preventing me from mixing wheel sets on the same axle? I know that I could answer many of these questions myself by just going out and trying these things, but my P38 is currently stuck at work with a flat battery!

yer want to fit different diameter wheels to yer landy cos your too tight to buy a 5th spare?? you know when you go for an MOT and they check to make sure the wheels are the same size? Well there's a real good reason why they do that.

if you want to be tight then the best thing to do is buy 18" L322 wheel off a vogue. you can get them off ebay for around £40 each if you keep your whits about you.

this way you wont need to carry another set of nuts or worrie about the spacer as you will need it. The wheels also have a very similar radius so no worries there!.

Thanks for the comments. Of course I'm tight I'm a fellow Yorkshireman! I tried the tyre size calculator which you so generously sent me and it appears that my 255/50/19s are exactly the same size as the 255/65/16s that are currently fitted. Is that enough for the MOT until I find the bargain spare wheel I'm looking for? I don't particularly want to shell out the £130 for the Sport Spare on #bay as this is more than I paid for a set of 4 Sport alloys with tyres!

Spare isn't part of the MOT you could turn up with a mini wheel with the wires sticking out of the side as a spare and they wouldn't be able to say anything about it.

A spare is part of the mot, if it is in the car it has to be legal as it is part of the car, but you can leave the spare at home as a vehicle does`t leagally have to have a spare present.
If the overall rolling diameter is the same then it is legal (same as the cars with a space saver - Ford focus / saab etc)

Just buy a 5th wheel for a spare, you will be glad ya did when your stuck in the cold and dark with it pouring rain down and your tryna bugger about with getting wheel spacers off the hub. This situation is bound to happen and it will most likely happen like I said, at night, in the rain and cold and you will probs have your missus in the car along with kids saying hurry the fook up!

Just buy the extra spare wheel, I picked one up with a good tyre on the bay for £40 like drew said.

I think an apology is in order, i have always been told that the spare has to be legal, so redhand please accept my apology ( is that enough grvelling)

I've got a 95l LPG tank where the spare is supposed to be but carry a couple of tins of tyreweld in the little spaces I can find down there. On that cold wet evening when you know the tyre is going to blow squirting a tin or 2 of that in is a far better option than fighting with a 20kg lump of rubbish. If it is a major failure then I have roadside rescue to come help. Easy as.

i have changed my 16" wheels to l322 wheels 19" i also got a spare of ebay but it wont fit in the wheel well in the boot
i have to carry mine around in the boot, its a right pain
but the wheels do mate the car look better

My spare wheel in my astra is a different size, its tiny a"get you home spare" so I presume it can be a different size but it must be in good condition ie legal.

If thats the case then the tyre you have on there is bigger than it should be and you have altered to rolling diamater of the wheels if all the other tyres are the same size. How does your speedo read??
