My 97 P38 Has An Unmarked Headlining But Is Sagging And Is About To Land On Me.......any Suggestions Without Replacing The Whole Thing Cheers
 
there wont be much you can do as the lining is probably foam backed. the actuyal lining will have seporated from the foam. the only real choice will be to replace it.

you can get the stuff you need from Woolies Trim


make sure you get the high temp glue or it will be down about yer ears on the first hot day

contact woolies for the headlining material to match and an aerosol tin of high temperature contact glue, (make sure they send the high temp stuff). then you need to remove the whole lining, and clean the board of all bits of foam.


spray the glue onto your clean board then stick the cloth on to it, trim edges and refit.
you may also have to buy some of the trim securing clips as you'll probably break some taking them out.

don't bother trying to glue what you have back into place as its a big no no.

what happens when you try to glue the material back onto the foam is this. the glue seeps through the headlining and attracts all the dust and other air borne crap and you end up with a horrible manky area where you have tried to glue it. plus the reason it failed in th efirst place is because the foam has broken up into fine dust.

you should easily manage it in a day, i did mine in a morning with the help of a write-up on a jag site

i replaced my headlining i got mine off eguy simple job took old one out and fitted new one in about an hour just work out how everything comes off first i only paid £20 for it
 
if you can be sure of getting a good one thats grand, but if you replace one old headlining with another you don't know how long it will last.. the foam breaks down over time so if the one you fit is about the same age as the one you take out, you could be driving with it around yer ears in a few months.
 
I recovered mine with original type material. It was pretty good for a year then bits started sagging again. I did a few repairs(pulling abit down and spraying more glue where neede) but theres always another section drooping. I've took it out today for a remake. Maybe it was the glue I used (spray carpet glue)

The glue you need can be got from any trim supply store, you want high temp spray glue.
For the best results spray lightly on both parts, leave for about 5 mins then spray both parts again wait 15 secs then carefully bring together.
Its a lot easier with 2 people and if you lay the headlining down from one end and gently smooth it out as you go.

wished i read this first, i even put doulde sided tape big sheets, and it still hangs,and the glue is starting to show, o well have to buy another one :eek::eek:
 
Hello Everyone
I have not posted for a while On this thread I removed my sagging headlining today really to find the cause of a considerable amount of water in the spare wheel well, traced to a kinked drain tube from the rear sunroof drain I will renew the headlining (i have the materials ready) and replace at a later date
