P38 running on blocks ? is it poss

If I jack up and put my p38 on blocks can I run it in gear or will it wind itself up and cause problems ? The reason for the question is I want to run it on blocks holding it on the brakes to try to identify which diff is making a noise - any other ways of doing this welcomed

Dunno how similar the drive train is to a Disco, but that's exactly (well, not blocks, a proper ramp with a chassis frame support) what the local Landrover garage did with my 300 Tdi to verify that the rear diff was nackered. Once up and running it was very quickly (like within 10 seconds) determined where the fault lay ...
