Hi All
Just about to get back into laning and im thinking of getting a P38,used to have a mk1 Pajero(groan, groan, yeah i know), and was just wondering what these are like off road?? Any help gratefully received guys

They're very good offroad, but they are quite large so likely to get scratched in tight lanes. The later ones have 4 wheel traction control which works excellently.

Have a look on youtube - plenty of videos of them in action.

Mine ventures onto the farm everyday and has had to pull the 4x4 tractor out once or twice. It has the manual transmission, LSD and no TC.

is there one of a p38 not even making it to the green lane before it dropped on its arse?:D:D:D

Thought they all had TC? The early ones (pre 2000) is just on the rear wheels.
Now you have me thinking. According to the handbook and the dealer mine hasn't got it but it has flashed the TC light today when I bogged it down.

All it does is apply the brake to the wheel that is spinning on an axle so the one with some grip can actually operate. Acts like a diff locker. Kind of.

I can't say if the TC has flashed, stayed on or nowt because on looking it doesn't appear to have one. Puzzled as according to Land Rover it says were fitted and I have just had it confirmed by the dealer that some early ones pre 99 had LSD not TC. Any way it can be proved as a yes or no?

Do you have a TC light on your dash that comes on when you turn the ignition on?

Never heard of LSD on P38s (from the factory anyway). Never heard of one without TC either, but I'm not an expert.

I wouldn't believe anything a main dealer tells you. Most of them don't even know what a P38 is.

Edit: They may have meant the centre diff, thinking about it. That could be described as a lsd.

It does have a TC light fitted which comes of for about half a second. Maybe it does have TC afterall but it hasn't any faults or warnings to say problem.
