P38 Plugs

At the moment I have std Champion plugs in my 4.6 P38 RR (GEMS engine).
I dunno if it's me but I've never been much of a fan of Champion &
prefer NGKs. I was thinking of fitting NGK Iridum plugs (BPR6EIX) &
Magnecor leads (8019).

Comments / suggestions welcome ......

Cheers,
Chris.

Gems doesn't need irridium plugs, save your dosh and fit NGK BPR6ES, and std
leads. There's nowt wrong with the factory leads on this engine. The problem
is heat from the exhausts, Magnecors will fail eventually due to their
insulation resistance breaking down, same as any other make of lead. Stay
away from some of the crappy cheap leadsets on flea-bay and you'll be fine.

Thanks for the advise. What's the difference between BPR6ES &
BPR6ES-11 by the way?

Cheers,
Chris.

Thanks for the swift reply, looks like I'll stick to the std ones then.
Have just posted a q about exhausts that I would value your answer to.

Cheers,
Chris.

BPR6ES are pre-gapped to 0.8mm

BPR6ES-11 are pre-gapped to 1.1mm

and... the -14 version is pre-gapped to 1.4mm

if running on LPG I'd go for the standard gap...

Mind, I have to admit to buying v-grooved ones for the 2.8 ford the other
day...

In which case BPR6EY are the way to go. With LPG I tend to use a
high-output coil and about 1.0mm gap - gives a nice fat spark to make
the stuff burn.

Now I'm confused .... BPR6ES or BPR6EY for the RR???

yeah, my thoughts too - I don't go for a huge gap. LPG is less good as a
conductor, apparently, so I try to make it easier for the spark to jump.

Either will do fine - the EY ones have a V-electrode and theoretically
give a better spark.
