Well its the start of a new week so this can only mean one thing. Its time for something else to break on my RR.

I pulled up on the drive yesterday and left it running as the EAS was running very slow just to see if it would go upto ride height when i noticed a DRIP,DRIP,DRIP,DRIP, from the front. I looked down and saw waht i thought was a leaking sump gasket.

So i Took myself off to DLS in matlock and picked one up and went home to fit it.

After about an hour and a half of getting really dirty the job was done, or so i thought.

I fired if up again and sure enough after about 30 seconds,DRIP,DRIP,DRIP. So i looked a litttle closer now everything had been cleaned off I noticed it seems to be comming from above the sump! Its running down the bottom of side of the block up in the courner where the oil filter is located, but not from the oil filter or its joint onto the block.

Does anyone know where it could be comming from, is there somthing above that could be leaking????? The problem is you cant see up past the filter.

Oh just incase its a 1998 RR 4.0SE.

Thanks

Could be the hose to the oil cooler from the oil filter housing, front cover gasket, rocker cover gasket, oil pressure switch or the front seal located underneath the inlet manifold (Valley gasket). sounds a lot but they are all located around the area you refer to.

thanks guys, i will take a look tomorrow, what the best way to check it or is it just a case of trying to get upto it?
thanks again

Just a matter of getting a load of rags to wipe the area clean then letting the engine idle. With all the hoses etc. in the way it may be better to have a look from underneath. Either way, I'm sure you will see or feel it if you are losing the amount you state. The P38 V8 is very cramped for space in the corner you are interested in.

hi mate if you jack up the front and as irish says give it a good wipe down all around the switch , have a decent handlamp or torch and you should be able to see if its the oil switch at fault especially if you warm up the motor first .
rick.

Thanks, im going to have a more detailed look this afternoone. fingers crossed it wont be much, but i will let you know how i get on.
thanks drew
