Does anybody have any experience of the interior trim kits availabe all over then net. I more than except that the original items will be more expensive but, and I am sure many will agree, wood trim kits whether orignal or not always look well, as they do !!!

There are a couple of ebay resellers such as Custom Cars UK and, after further investigation, i have also come across the 'Full Kit' Benvenuto which i presume are the ones the ebay resellers are selling in bits ???

I cant find a UK dealer for Benvenuto but have managed to make contact with a US DEALER who tells me the kit can be provided in either RHD or LHD. He says the the quality is, if fitted with care, and at 2mm/3mm thick, pretty good and definately should be a consideration for any body wanting to achieve that 'Autobiography' look without remortgaging the kids to pay for the OEM bits.

I'm just toying with the idea of jazzing up my new acquisition a bit (P38 No.3) and wanted to know if anybody had any experience of these kits, or similar parts/kits. On the whole I would normally say 'You get what you pay for' so, are they actually a bit s**t or is the end result, if fitted with care, passable.

Thoughts and ideas appreciated guys and gals.........:D

I went to have a look at a P38 this week for a friend. This had a stick on kit and it was truely awfull. Every part that had trim stuck to it was lifting, it looked just like was - stuck on. The worst place was the top of the centre consul where the air and cruise switches are. This is, as you know, a shaped moulding, so you can imagine what it looked like with flat bits stuck to it. Dont be fooled by the pictures used to advertise these kits, I think you will find the pictures are of factory fitted trim. Save up and get the real deal, they often crop up on the bay or try specialist breakers.

Hi,
I have several items from Custom Cars and have been surprised at the excellent fit and quality.

I fitted them as instructed by the supplier...
Cleaned the area several times with surgical spirit from the chemist and carefully placed the item aligning it without toching the sticky, when aligned firmly pressing home with a soft cloth.

They have all stuck very well and have not moved in the heat, my Classic wood trim fell off in the heat but not the Custom Car p38 trim.

The trim is made of soft high gloss finish plastic and matches the original trim perfectly, the adhesive is 3m auto adhesive as used in the manifacture of cars.

To sum up, a perfect fit and match but not cheap, I will get more as and when I can afford it

My bits
Hevac
Radio
Window switch pack

Next aircon sensor
As stated I am not certain that the curved sections would be as good but I will ask the supplier, remember these are soft flexible plastic so they may be just as good as the fitted trim so far. Other makes are hard plastic so beware....

Regards Fred

Thank you guys

Your comments are what i had thought. The quality is as you would expect and for the flat surfaces....should if fitted with care, be fine.

I am however interested to find out how these bits work on the curved and rounded sections so if anyone knows/has experience, please let me know as i would be looking to get a full kit in one go.

Should I go ahead I will take some piccies of the process and give feedback via this thread for future users.

Redrenger, if you are speaking to Custom Cars, could you ask them whether it is the 'Benvenuto' Kit they are reselling and more importantly, whether they do, or can source a full kit. I can only see a few bits on their Ebay profile at the moment.

Thanks again :)
