Hi Guy's & Gals,

Have you got one of these ?

I am off to see one to-morrow with a mechanic friend, I was looking at a P38 a few days ago and my wife fell in love with the Holland & Holland.

It's a 2000 X reg with full service history and 140k, good clean condition.

How much do you think it is worth ?

I know they are complex and therefore more liable to problems, but would appreciate your views.

This would not be our main car but a bit of luxury to pull our caravan, so would not do a huge mileage.

Thank's on behalf of the BOSS

Thank's
I will have to look closely, this one sounds too good to be true.
Seems to be under priced acording to your link.
I'm worried now..........

If you aren't going to buy there and then try and get photos of inside and out. There are plenty of P38 nuts on here, me included, who could tell you whether its a genuine Holland & Holland or not. Check especially for the Special Vehicles plate on the slam panel under the bonnet.

To be honest, if its a true Holland & Holland you will know it, a few tell tale features would be as follows, the wood inside is taken from the wood they use to make the guns with and has the H&H logo on all the wood inserts along the door cards. The wheels should be 18" hurricanes with green accents. It will be a sort of greeny colour. I think they all had SatNav but don't hold me to that. Try and get some photos for us to see if you are unsure.

Has real wood dash, doors etc.
Holland & Holland Badge on boot, flash on door sills, bluey chrome in rubbing strips, bown and beige leather on doors and dash, beige carpets with brown rubber mats, Video, two tone leather and wood steering wheel etc.

Engine compartment very clean and everything seems to work as far as I can tell.

Do P38's suffer from rust the same as my Classic and what should I look for ?

Cheers
Fred

No they dont suffer from rust like Classics do mainly because all the panels are aluminium. The problem they do have is because the alu panels are on a steel frame you get bubbling on the alu panels from the reaction between the two metals, electrolysis is the name for it I think. So look for bubbling and things like that, you could use it as a bargaining chip.

The tailgate is one place that can be a problem, the upper tailgate is all steel and it will rust along the bottom edge (where the number plate lights are) so look for any signs of rust there. The lower tailgate will corrode and bubble like I mentioned above, open the lower tailgate and then lift up the black plastic thing which covers the gap, see if there is any bubbling or corrosion along the bottom edge of the tailgate there.
