Hi all

Am thinking about upgrading the p38 lights and flebay have some kits for about £65 all in.

Has anyone on the forum bothered to upgrade is it worht it or safe to do the upgrade ?

thanks

Tony:)

i fitted the halfords bulbs that were on offer at 2 for a tenner. i think the hid kits are a minefield if ya wanna stay legal and i wouldn't buy fook all off e bay if i wanted it to last.

I fitted an ebay H4 hi/lo hid kit, went for 6000k in colour, nice and bright white, with a hint of blue. They give bulb failure warnings but theres ways around this, for now im just living with it, Sam

i fiited a set from hids for u about three years ago and have had no problems with them ! makes one hell of a difference when driving at night you can actually see where your going!

Fitted a set on my works van, best upgrade you can do. The difference is amazing!! If you shop round you can buy the resister packs that will eliminate the "bulb failure" warning light.

As long as you buy the right kit they are a plug and play job! Remove existing bulb, plug HID kit into existing wiring loom fix ballast pack with self tapper or existing bolt, fit new bulb and job done. Simples!

Bought a set for my P38 when I got it - hids4u.co.uk - not the cheapest, but you get a 2 year guarantee and don't get any of the bulb blown type warnings.

Easy to install and give oodles of light - so bonus all round really!

They look absolutely identical - essentially you are replacing the bulb with the new one and adding a ballast/igniter unit per side which sits in the engine bay.

Only difference is when they are on - you can see more!

It depends how picky the tester is! AFAIK they are only legal if you are able to adjust the beam height from inside the vehicle. Unless somebody else knows for certain i will ask my local MOT tester tomorrow for a 100% answer.

I have factory fitted HID's on Er Indoors Vectra. There is no manual control inside the car to allow the driver to adjust the height remotely.
There are however, height sensors fitted to the front & rear suspension which automatically keep the headlight aim at a set height.

Mine have gone through 3 MOTs without an issue - I have queried the whole self levelling thing with the tester and his answer was "your whole car self levels - good enough for me" so wasn't bothered.

good point :)

think any car with hids needs to or at least is supposed to have self levelling headlights with washers but i know of a few factory renaults that dont have washers fitted.

If the tester sees your lamps and fails you for either reason I would say you are pretty unlucky tbh

Why washers? Do they burst into flames or something?
