My 1997 p38 diesel auto, will not rev when I select any gear, put it back in neutral and revs ok, slam it in to D mid rev and off I go, slowley. Also the selector lights are not always in sync with the lever position. But no gearbox warning lights on. Cud anyone help me to fix it or any advise. Many thanks

Sounds like either bad connections or the gearbox ECU. The gearbox ECU signals the engine ECU to reduce power on changing gear, it can also force a "limp home" mode.
You need to get the fault codes read as a first step.

The lights alongside the lever and the position in dash display the need to correspond to the lever position.

Get under the beast and check the position switch on the gear change shaft.

Hi, my hubby David, crawled under the beast and followed all the cables around the gearbox, like we were told to do, he found one that had worn through and had melted into another one. He's fixed that and is now on a mission to go through the rest of the things you have suggested.
He says it drives better.
So lets hope we are getting there.
I would also like to say a big thank you to you all for the help and the knowledge you have given us, since we have joined your forum.
Its Gr8 to be able just to get some answers.
Thanks again.
