i have a 2.5 diesel p38 auto and want to put a BMW 2.8 or a 3.0 diesel or any other 2.8 or 3.0 diesel engine that will fit straight to the ZF 4 speed auto gearbox and that dose not need alot of modification in order to fit it into my range rover anyone help me please

If you can make the engine ECU talk to the BECM you will be doing well. Second point is the auto box will not handle more power, you would have to change the ZF4HP22 for a ZF4HP24 at the very least. If you want a bigger engine it would be easier and probably cheaper to sell your P38 and buy an L322.

Yeah, I'd suggest that in order to fit anything other then the original engine in will mean using stand alone ecu and being able to interface that with the BECM etc, etc and it costing a damn site more than it will ever be worth. Now that's not to say don't give it a go but it's definately not going to be easy, straight forward or cheap! I've always thought fitting an engine from an M3 Evo would be great fun to try!
the reason i want a bigger engine is that the 2.5 lump thats in my range rover now dosnt seem to tow my twin axle caravan that well it tow spot on from about 40-60mph but you have to rev it hard to get it to pull from a stand still if theres any way i cud get it to pull better from a stand still i wud keep the 2.5 lump init is there any way i could make it pull better?

power box should help with the torque but its at the risk of the gearbox

as gfromleeds says,you take a chance with the auto box.My p38 has been superchipped an pulls my twin axle bessacar (1800 kg mptlm) no problem,but mines a manual.
it has an ajustable power box on it which dose make a big differance. i no that my intank fuel pump is weak as it miss fires when parke facing up hill and is very guttless driving up hill. when i bourght the car it was fine that why i suspect it has a week pump could that make a differanceto how it pulls its nly need that little bit more bottom end pull and it will be spot on

A duff in tank pump can certainly affect performance and starting. Check the pipe from the MAP sensor on the fuel filter housing to the inlet manifold is in place and not split of leaking
