Sorry, it wasn't on page 2 when I started posting, then got distracted!

OK, so to the red light it's probably between 350 and 450 miles depending on cruising along or more inefficient use!

Thanks :)

Was only after a rough guide - as TAH says, -/+ 50 miles for driving style and conditions in normal use, so we looking at 300/400 miles to a tank? 500 even??

Cheers zzr1200 - that is great as one of the uses will be driving down to the Alps in ski season with 4 adults and a lot of luggage. How many miles did you get from a tankful then? Sorry, no idea how big a P38 diesel tank is!

Please read all the post, and you would see wammers on post 11 stated the tank size

US gallons and UK gallon are a different amount, P38 diesels tank holds 20 UK gallons.

Capacity is quoted at 90 litres or 19.82 imperial gallons. John then asked for US gallons and i converted it to 23.8028 US gallons. From my flying days convertions, think a US gallon is around .87 of an imperial gallon.

I understand that no prob's wammer's, its just that some peeps may not know theres a difference between UK gallons and US gallons.

Welcome to the Dordogne - hope the weather cheers up a bit for you soon :)

British stiff upper lip and a good brolly we'll have a good time, visiting family just outside Gourdon, don't care about the weather really. Theres plenty to do around here, the caves at Padirac and feeding the monkies at Rocamourdor, although there maybe 2 more monkeys there by the time I leave.......;).......:D

Acouple of months ago I wanted to see what mine would do over 3/4 of a tank (real world average) so filled it and achieved 24.25 miles/UK gallons, this was mixed driving (A roads, B roads, town, stop/start). I am also quite heavy footed so this could be bettered but wanted a real figure not what could be achieved. Its a 2.5 DT auto on 157K miles.
Cheers Davie:)

Best I've had out of mine is 580 miles while searching for a bloody garage that would take my card in the middle of the night, the red light had been on for ages and I got over 87 litres in when I finally managed to find a garage.

Mine has a yellow light for low fuel. The range states less than 50 miles.
I did a recent run London to Leeds and back and the range said 76 miles left.
4adults plus luggage.
Someone on here do the sums.

hi i dont know if this any help but i do a bit of both.. driveing in london stop start and on the motoway......i get 18 mpg around town so a full tank gets me 347.4 miles and on a run i get 24mpg so i get 463miles out of a full tank..a full tank will cost diffrent price. depending on where your from but it will cost around £110 to £120. i think youll still have around £30 left in the tank when the red light comes on so you should get a good 50 miles out of it. but the only way to be 100% get a jerry can full of disel in the boot:) and as soon as the red light shows set your miles and let it run out..

It's only 6 mpg difference. Maybe your lead foot accounted for that.

hi mr wammers hope all is good:) mate only six mpg thats a lot over a full tank where talking around 120 miles diffrance. is he getting 30mpg out of his car.:) i dont think hes telling porkeys at all.. im just wondering how he gets that out of it so i can do the same or should mine be that good allready... but is in need of a good service:doh: ....you could be right as you have been every time befor:D but i dont think its down to a heavy foot. as once your on the motoway its 70/80mph all the way:) i was wondering weather he got them miles with the power box on the car or off. as i think he said he was going to take the power box off?? or was going to put one on. and that something iv been thinking of doing to mine or a chip... now it looks like ill be keeping it for a bit longer:):):D

I agree with Wammers on this one, while on the journey down there were some very long slight upwards inclines on the auto-route, used extra power to maintain speed, at times l didn't back off once on the downward slope, soon found myself doing 90/95 mph at times. To lose 6 mpg is easy, terrain, road conditions, head winds, driver error and in-correct gear use.

Yeah but it depends where you're driving your car, around the Lake district will give a lot different results than around Lincolnshire. A heavy foot and traffic laden town will easily use 6 mpg more than constant A road or motorway driving. Driving at 80 instead of 70 will also have an effect.

Max torque is develvoped at 2500/2600 rpm if my memory is correct, 2750 is 70-ish pm but once you drop below 2500 rpm the power falls away fast. 3000 rpm about 80-ish.

Personally I feel 60 mph is to slow for economy in 5th gear.

I've got a very small pension and as a result a very light foot. Not much traffic on the roads I use, regularly get 30mpg on a long run cruising at between 90 and 120Kmh according to the limits on the particular road. Around and about my long term average is 24mpg:D The MPG is much the same with or without the powerbox fitted, I used to run a powerbox until it cooked the auto box now I run without, at least until I get the box changed. Local MPG is the same with or without the powerbox unless you believe the dash display, on the auto route MPG is very slightly better with the powerbox. All my figures are from brim to brim calculations, not the display:D With a lead boot I can get the MPG down to 18. :-(
