Hi again, put the car up for sale, got a buyer, and then yesterday was on my way to my inlaws party and the car cut out .
I started the car sat there on the fone for 5 mins, went to pull away and it cut out. then it took a while to get started again.
defo never had that before, but then before i even got out the car park it happend again. then about another 5 times in the next half hour of driving.
it was only cutting out when my foot was relieased from the accelerator (changing gear, Braking), so in the end because i doing the music for the party i had to get there no matter what, so ended up having to keep the revs up non stop, when slowing putting in neutral and left foot braking. took a bit of time to master but its pretty easy when ya get used to it, so i got to the party.
now this morning when leaving in laws house, i wasnt excpecting (hoping) it was all good again, which it wasnt, but didnt expect more issues. still cuts out sometimes when foot is lifted from accelerator, but now it lacks in power and feels like car is julting in rythem. it wasnt at all random julting.

the cutting out i have had before on another car. i changed the idle control valve and all was good in the world again. but unsure if this is the case here.
also no idea what the julting is. im no expert with cars but im sure desiels cant missfire due to no spark plugs??? might be wrong tho.

any ideas will be great, i havent looked at car yet due to being way to tired after being up late last night and just wanted to get home today. will take a look in morning.

just takes the **** that i was just about to sell the c8nt!!!

It sounds like you have fuel issues, try changin fuel filter or at least draining it off by undo'ing small plastic bung underneath, also check spill return pipes on near top off injector (small rubber link pipes) check clear fuel line to injector pump while engine running to see if theres any air bubbles... im sure its one of these... if not check elec fuel pump in tank. good luck.

ok i have taken a look at car today and found the problem. number 1, the arshole i bought it from lied to me and said the antifreeze had just been changed, obviously not as the coolant is frozen. but thats not the main issue here, i have found that when the car is running, i can see loads and loads of bubbles going throught the clear pipe from the fuel filter to the pump.

what causes this????

Break in fuel pipe in tank. Try filling tank more than half full to cover split in fuel pipe. Or could be O rings at either side of fuel filter. When fuel gets hot it expands, when it cools it contracts if O rings have gone hard air can be sucked in past them when car is stood idle. More likely to be split fuel line though.

ok thanks for that wammers, are there any ways to determine which one is the cause with out spending pointless money???

ok to update, i have just tried to determine whether its a front end or back end problem.
i took off the fuel line going into the fuel filter, and last time i done this when my mum put petrol in it, when i turned the key 2 clicks the fuel would come out for about 10 seconds, but now there is nothing, tried it about 10 times and not a drip of fuel showing.
filter seems to be full tho. and as soon as the car turns off, you can see all the fuel in the clear pipe going backwards towards the filter.

Obviously im thinking the fuel pump in the tank is not working, but it must be to getting the car started, left it to idle for a while and everry big bubble you see goe through the clear pipe it stalls.

Is the fuel pump working???
is the injector pump capable of drawing Fuel through on its own without the tank pump working???
Im baffled!!!!

I no the tank pump was on is last legs but kinda strange to me how it would still run if it wasnt not working.

Fuel pump will only work whilst glow plug light is on, when engine is being cranked or with engine running. If you get no flow when glow light is on you may have a duff pump or pump relay. With ignition off. Take out relay 12 in fuse box put a live feed from battery positive to terminal 5. There are four terminals three face the same way. Number five is the one that goes across. This should start pump if you do not get flow pump is duff. If you do get flow relay is duff.

cheers wammers, i will take a look.
But would the car start if the pump was duff???

Yes the fuel injector pump will suck fuel to a certain degree. Although there would maybe some loss of power. If you have air in there it is likely there is a split pickup in tank above your fuel level. FIP is sucking air through this split. If pump was working it would just leak fuel from the split back into the tank.

ok, thanks, that clears things up in my mind. saturday, there wasnt much loss of power that i noticed anyway, was more interested in getting to the party, lol. but sunday morning, and now, defo loss of power.

Im off to try what you said. will report back soon.

How much do you think a pump will be from land rover itself.
Got £500 worth of work xmas eve......day and boxing day.
need a car. ebay gonna take too long to get here.
gonna get the pump out tomorrow anyway wether i can get a pump or not.

Island 4x4 are in Kent are they not near you?

tried them, but they cant get it here until after xmas.
i have had to order it from land rover. wow expensive but needs must.....

bought a new grinder cos mines knackered, i've but the carpet under the seat and sorted measurements, and all i gotta do tomorrow it cut open the metal floor.

can i just ask tho, the breather hose that ontop of the pump, where does that go to???

ok new pump fitted. tested from the relay switch and works fine.
can only see one tiny bubble in the clear pipe. tried starting the car but battery dead so got me brothers van down to jump it but taking so long to charge the battery we give up.
his battery says 75 amps and mine says 740 amps. i guess this is the reason??? unsure about staring powers as his van is running so wont be using the battery but can someone confirm this???
called out recovery to jump it off there high power chargers and then i can see if it will start. nearly had it starting, coughing and then batt died again. ffs!!!

the pumps on these things are alot bigger than i was expecting. maahhhooooosive compared to others i done.
