I have the above and there is loads of oil all over place under the battery tray and chassis if it had an oil cooler i would say it was that but no oil cooler or pipes on that side, no oil on front cross member I cannot see any leaks on the engine can any one shead any light on this thanks

Sounds awfully like your turbo is having a problem, that or the rubber pipe/tube from the turbo to the intercooler has ruptured! Further investigation is required!
Regards, Ian

it still could be the oil cooler, it runs right across the front and with age the ally corrodes and well the short term is ****es oil all over the place. defo check the intercooler hoses and the breather from the rocker cover first though.

Hi there is an oil cooler, and it will be that that is leaking. It is under the turbo intecooler in front of the radiator. They split in the welds for the mounting bracket.

When you buy a new one, also get new oil pipes as well. DO NOT TRY TO USE OLD ONES. They are impossible to remove and re mount on the oil cooler.
The job is simple, just a lot of digging to get to it.
Look at RAVE for instructions.

yes sorry it has an oil cooler but it is for the auto box that has not lost any oil
the engine has lost a lot of oil so i will have to look at the turbo intercooler pipe as the oil is under the battery tray
if the air filter is full of crap will it suck oil past the oil seals in the turbo and then leek out of the intercooler pipe

The auto box oil cooler is behind where the left hand fog light would be on a manual. The engine oil cooler is as already stated, below the intercooler in front of the rad.

I was on the motorway earlier today and started loosing power, pulled over to hard shoulder as knocking noise started so switched engine off, large oil trail behind me and a pool where I stopped.
AA recovery took me to a local garage as was not a roadside fix, garage mechanic checked oil level and found to be ok and they are going to check around the engine tomorrow. With amount of oil along the motorway and at the point where I stopped I can't understand how the oil level was still ok.
PS will just about start but sounds awful.
Any ideas.
Cheers
Neil
