Hi all, I've just (this evening!) bought a p38 2.5 dse, when I got back home with it after a 25m drive, I found it was losing a bit of oil, i've had a quick look under the front and it looks like the oil is coming from somewhere around the battery tray area. Does anyone have any ideas or had simillar problem?

:welcome2:to the nut house!!

I have a oil in the same place . The only thing i can at that side of the motor is the flexi hose that runs from the turbo to the intercooler. Mine is leaking oil from the join so i'm assuming i have a bit of blowby from the engine.
Dont seem to bother it too much just keep an eye on the dipstick level.

Just a thought..................you didnt buy a rangie for reliability did you???

cheers for that Everlatesparky! as for the reliability i'm gettin rather concerned now as i'm about to part with a very reliable 03 Vw Passat tdi sport!

Anyone got any ideas on the oil leak???? Had a look this morning and it looks to be coming from the radiator/headlight area on the offside, it's blowing quite a bit out now after taking it for a run up the motorway for about 15m.:mad::mad:

There is the oil cooler and pipes around that area so it could be from that, is it engine oil leaking? Or transmission/power steering fluid which is red colour?

No, it's definately black ****y engine oil, i'll give it a service when i've cured the leak! I'll strip the front end off it tomorrow and have a look around the oil cooler, my Rave cd has just arrived so i'll have a browse through it and see if I can get some ideas, but oil cooler sounds good.
cheers for the help.:high5:

Sorted it! the mounting bracket on the offside of the oilcooler was slightly fractured and weeping oil, which turned into a fountain at high revs! a bit of industrial strength belzona and Roberts your mothers brother!:cool2:

hi,glad you found the leak, what is this belzona you are on about.:D:D

Belzona is an industrial strength e-metal, don't confuse this with the cheap crap that you can get from the car spares shop, this stuff is MEGA strong and can be drilled and tapped! we use it in the steel industry (well whats left of it!) I work for Corus!
