Lock with remote or by key but the boot doesn't lock i.e. go to open boot after locking up, boot opens and alarm sounds.

Did a quick search but only seems to show threads where boot won't operate.

Any ideas?

From experience, any one from three.

Sticky mechanism in the lower tail section or something electronic between driver's door lock and boot. A few screws/ clips takes off the carpet board off the lower tail and have a look inside. Work the lock manually with a squirt of WD or similar and check wiring. The button should also be springy.
Drivers door lock also controls the boot lock. There are two wiring connectors attached to this lock only accessible from inside the door. This means stripping off the door panel and interior handle assembly. Changing the lock mechanism is a little fiddly but do-able in 20 mins (I've had to do it twice in the past couple of years - £40 at breakers). Thirdly (although you may want to check first) is the fuses although if everything else works - windows, interior lights etc then prob not as most of them have two or three circuits to protect.

Lastly when you lock off the remote does it issue a warning beep or two or just clunk locked? Any warning message on the dash when opening?

On the plus side you know your alarm works when you open the boot so at least there is power getting to the boot.

Double beeps when superlock via fob. Boot actually opens via tail button fine - no probs at all.
Doesn't make sense that boot mechanism is sticky as it works fine, doesn't stick etc

All fuses previously checked and working fine :)

No warnings on dash apart from 'alarm fault' - suspect interior volumetric sensor.

Makes some sense that it is driver side door lock related. When you lock this from inside car it won't lock all doors via central door locking. If you lock by passenger front, then all lock via central locking.

My guess is the drivers doorlock mechanism. Like I say I've done it twice in the past 15months. The drivers door lock is the one which controls the boot lock. Its a failsafe to ensure at least something opens when one of the lock circuits fails.

This is also happening to mine, exactly the same symptoms! I'll check the lock when it comes back from the garage (new t/f box viscous coupling).
