Hello again all, i have been away for a while doing other projects but sadly this one still hasn't gone away so i ought to perhaps do something about it. I have a choice, i can either swap all of the diesel related parts from my panel damaged P38 onto my wifes petrol P38, OR i can swap the bodies over... i know that neither job is 'easy' but i would welcome views from members who have done either or both of the tasks, i must admit i am swayed towards the body swapping route because my Range Rover is 5 years newer than my wifes but that said advice please from those who have first hand experience gratefully received.

Simon.

If you swop your newer body to an older vehicle you cannot use your number plate on it. The chassis is an identifying feature and you must use your wifes number plate. You cannot make an older vehicle appear younger it is illegal.

You have miss read my post, i want to swap the body from my wifes older car to my newer chassis.

I'm fully aware it will be a huge task but like everything if you sit and look at it it won't go away, if you just get on with it you might just win! please no more sucking of teeth and ' you've got a job on mate' i know all that i just want to hear from people WHO HAVE DONE THIS BEFORE.
Many thanks

Think you might have a long wait if your after a step by step guide. Nobody is sucking their teeth. If your confident you can do it get on with it. After all it's just a case of disconnecting everything, lifting a ton of body rolling the other stripped chassis underneath dropping the body on and connecting everything up. Simple.:D:D:D

Hold on a minute you want a step by step guide to removing a body and replacing it with not the same body, but one from a petrol onto a diesel. The engine harnesses are different for a start, it is a gross amount of work unless you own a four poster ramp and know what you are doing. You obviously don't know what is involved or you would not ask the question. Buying yourself some body filler and a sander maybe a far less stressful option.

5 posts in 2 days in 2 years 51,000 members on standby just for you just in case you come on and ask a daft question

IF you manage to do what your asking advice about why dont you publish a step by step guide on here? Im sure a lot of people would like to see it.

Relax Interjen.
These are good people who know what they're talking about and who do a lot to help people. It's not a consultancy service with people on standby.
Good luck with the project and keep us all informed.
That's how the knowledge goes round.

I don,t think its impossible. look at all the landies and classics that are dissmantled and rebuilt on new chassis.
If you look on the Discovery forum there is an picture of a disco 3 which has had the body lifted off the chassis for an engine change.

Then you have to swap the electrics again not impossible...

I wouldn't want to do it outside. Good luck and let us know how you get on.
