High MPG readings confirms that calibration is done wrong. When pump is set correctly, fuel consumption readings will be close to reality(brim to brim).
Worst idle will be when engine is cold.
yip cold idle is very jumpy car does rock but not in a good way! and mpg off the scale now 56mph lol
yip I had the same conclusion Fip is definitely the problem, dam I guess I will be without the beast for another week while part is shipped back and forth to mainland as no one local seems to offer this service :(
many thanks for all tips and advice as ever much appreciated :) ................. now if I could only find a cure for my badly damaged wallet this beast has caused ;)

Where did you get the FIP? I got mine from Diesel Jones in Manchester. They're very good.

forgot to ask my mechanic! will do next visit.
Got another one fitted and all is well, back to bleak mpg of 21.1, engine running smooth and no stuttering under breaking, I think it was forcing fuel through FIP when breaking/engine breaking! i thought it was my rubber bushings worn at front but was FIP causing it, mad.
all is good now back to enjoying the beast, many thanks again for all the input :)
its great to see a few other p38s about my town in last few weeks, I am not the only nutter in this neck of the woods lol
