Hi my P38 air compressor comes on alot and then goes off and a burst of air comes out the side of the box which holds the air compressor and valve block (look like an air outlet) and the compressor comes back on once the air has come out

i think if this burst of air stops coming out then my air compressor wouldnt come on as much

why is the air coming out the side every so often and what is controlling this?
thanks

Hi gorgee. It sounds as though something like a one way air valve is letting the pressure escape, if you take the EAS cover off can pinpoint exactlly where its coming from?

Cheers, nick

yeah i can see it with the EAS cover on too as its on the side of the EAS compartment facing the engine and not inside it
its like a outlet with material on it at the back/bottom of the EAS compartment

no it doesnt leak it just puff a burst of air out of the side of the air box in the engine bay on the engine side at the bottom towards the back (out of a round thing that looks like an outlet)

Hi.
Having looked at the diagram it is the exhaust outlet and it can only release air from the bags if the relevant airbag solenoid is open and the exhaust solenoid too. It goes through the air drier to help remove any moisture from the system and exits through the exhaust that your describing.
While reading this stuff it seems more likely that it is either the pressure sensor (too much pressure resulting in extra air release) or a height sensor (causing constant adjustment) that is faulty but i'm sure the diagnostics software will tell you.
When mine went Pete Tong the software diagnosed faulty pressure sensor. I changed it myself, and honestly once you get to the valve block it's quite straightfoward. There are some numbers of very reasonable guy's over hear i could give you.

Cheers, Nick.

The 'round thing that looks like an outlet' is the EAS exhaust silencer.

Chris.

thanks for that but still dont understand why it keeps bursting out lots of air as it can be water inside?and if there was couldnt be that much where it does it so much
ill have to save up and get it on the dealers computer
