Hi all.

Very fortunate to find this P38 on Gumtree. When you spend as much time as I do, on a weekly basis, looking at cars and motorbikes you learn to spot the good ones!

Previous owner owned it for 15 years and I had to go to Beaworthy, Devon (5 hours or so from Paddington, train and bus!) after a night shift a week last Saturday but i wasn't going to miss out on the chance to own this.
I actually paid asking price, which I can't remember the last time I did (in around 30 car purchases), so I was thoroughly impressed.

I've already done a water pump and ordered the top end gasket set as it needs the valley gasket replacing.
It returned almost 25 MPG sat at 65 MPH on the 222 mile return journey.

I am in the process of splitting up with my wife, so this is going to be my new classic car when I get back home to the North West.

Pictures don't begin to do it justice...!

Think I made a mistake with the images - you'd never think I was only 30! These computers are beyond me.

*Edit - managed to sort them...!*

That is smashing.

I thought they looked quite ugly and like a London cab when I first saw them but they really have grown on me, to the point where they have become a modern day classic, especially when in comparison to the latest offerings.

Sounds like you have a good plan with it mechanically so it's gone to a good new home.

Honestly, the pictures don't do it justice.
Aside from a golf-ball (first owner was a lifetime member...!) dent on the N/S/R door, it is unreal.
If my divorce drags out I will be having it sent home on a transporter and garaged until I get back.
It's too nice to have ruined in daily use.
Don't get me wrong, it won't be mothballed, but I will try and be as careful as possible with it.

I did have an R reg 4.0 SE a couple of years back, but it had 256k miles on it (still went fine) and was only £500 so it wasn't worth giving my all to. This, however...

I will be taking it to Flywheel, the Classic and Sports Car show at Bicester in June.

Nice motor, I have a 2000 4.0 V8, that has been family owner for most of its life, they are nice to drive and own, enjoy.
