P38 2.5 DT Viscous fan

What is the best way to check if the viscous fan coupling is working correctly. When i start up from cold the fan is pulling lots of air through the radiator but when i check it after a hard drive the fan looks to be running at a fraction of the engine speed and not much airflow in the engine bay.

Stick a rolled up news paper into the blades with it hot and running, if the fan stops it's shagged. MIND YOUR HANDS WHEN DOING THIS.

Thanks Datatek, the fan stops without any effort.Do you know if the fan and viscous unit will come out of the fan cowl and up through the space at the top of the engine if i take the black plastic cover off that is held on by two allen bolts.

I`ve not had to do it myself, . . .yet. . , but maybe you should consider a Kenlowe electric fan as a replacement? I`ve found them a good and economic replacement on other cars.

If it's got aircon, it's easier to use the existing underused aircon fans and a lot less expensive
