Bought new 110 in 2013 here in Abu Dhabi and regular Maintenence items (brakes, pads, rbbber bushings, turbo hoses, clutch, and now transaxle leak) all driving (pun intended) me mad. Defender is wife’s daily driver, maybe 45km round trip for workdays. Reg Maintenence at official service center and fight ensues over bloodletting bills. Have only gently dune bashed one time since owning. Every few months take on 300ish road trip. Love the caché and she get offers all the time, but I now wish I had bought Fj70. Now 110k kilos. Friends from Africa&Asia say, if you want to safari, take a defender, if you want to return from safari, take a Toyota. I have had it w/LR/RR/Jag

Urethane hoses installed for turbo and no issues since 3 factory rubber failings. Seems like every GD corner was cut in engineering, how come no one talks about lousy dependability, only the icon status?

Welcome to LZ the official home of the iconic green oval - land rovers put smiles on your face and everyone wishes they had one. They’ll be plenty on here who have taken their truck through the temperature extremes and didn’t suffer a failure. Having worked in Dubai I know the heat can be hostile ;).

welcome to the land of many zooers.

Dude! 1) we live in apartment complex and “not allowed” to turn wrenches here. 2) don’t have the requisite tools or diagnostic equipment I had before we moved here 3) having “agency/dealer service increases residual value with certified paper trail from LR/RR/Jag. 4) temps in the 40c (and going way up for next 3 1/2months & 70%-90% humidity, would you work in that weather? ‘nuff said. Also I won’t take my Panzer tank tough Porsche to track in these conditions, but we both daily drive our vehicles. I just drive mine waaay faster in town and out on the freeway (160kph limit) and even higher speed out in the Empty Quarter!

So you score on resale then...temp here in Algarve 31 and climbing we cant fit all cars in garage so have to service some outside... tools get hot as the sun moves!!...lol

Yes, it is what it is. The outside ambient temp showed 50.5c on recent trip to dubai. Experts say outdoors will be unfit for human activity in next 20yrs due to global warming. I say sooner, MUCH sooner. I worked in steel mill as a young (35yrs ago) man full of vinegar&p¡zz and was most difficult time of my working life, with the exception of making the equivalent of €30/per hour. The poor men in GCC who work outdoors here make as little €90 per month! Yes, I’ve heard the excuses that where they come from they earn €1 a day or less, but it is a shame they are in indentured servitude. We (all of us on landyzone) have been gifted the birth lottery in 1st world country’s, but most are oblivious. On a trek in Morocco Sahara I saw and communed with the Amazigh people. Desperately poor but happy with their lives. On many other safari’ in Asia Minor and Africa, the suffering is heartbreaking. All this experience within the comfort of Fj70’s and Defender’. A friend who’s family owns a very large track of land for hunting/photo safari on S. Africa/Botswana border just rid themselves of all their Defenders for Toyota dependability, FYI. I will protect our investment in wifey’ Defender for a tidy R.O.I. in future, as well as my special Panzer tank. As they say “it’s all about the Benjaman’s, baby!” Although, replacing entire drivetrain, suspension, wiring harness may be an option, depending how much she cry’s at prospect of me eventually moving Defender on down the road. Lastly, I’ve asked my friend’ in military, Brit & American “meat eaters” military men that I know, (stupid query), why do scumbag terrorist world over use T.L.C.model 79 for their malign, despicable activities, and they say “it may have something of indestructible nature of the truck short of an MBT Law, RPG or Hell Fire missle, ‘nuff said!

Hey landyZone! My service advisor rang me up yesterday to tell me to bring “poseur” courtesy car Evoque back for a different vehicle. And low and behold, a 2020 110Defender S! If it was a girl I’d ask her to marry me. In 140kilos’ of driving around, (I took the loooong way to deliver it to wifey) I’ve become smitten! No dune bashing but after the top 3 petrol rags awarded it COTY and one

of them tripping thru Namibia, I have no doubt the capabilities of the 4cylTurbo ability’s. Now, just where to store (after mothballing) our 2013Fender after wifey falls into love as I have! And damn near same same color! And apologies to all, the orientation of the føtøs were correct when uploading.
