Diesel two pin front and rear. 4.6 petrol two pin front, four pin rear.

Not sure about that Wammers. I thought they were all 4 pin at rear and that only the 4.6 had a 4 pin at the front. At least thats what it was like up to 1999 anyway.

My understanding was that the 4 pin front diff came with the beefier gearbox of the 4.6. They may have introduced the 4 pin onto more models in 1999.

Think what i said is correct. The four pin is used on the more powerfull petrol engine in the rear axle, two pin in front axle that does not take as much load. Diesel two pin front and rear. That's as i understand it anyway. :):)

Lifted from RR.net:

The rear differential had a heavy 4-pin diff carrier (vs. two pin in the previous RR) to handle the extra strain of the electronic traction control (the front differential got the 4-pin diff in 1999 when Land Rover added traction control to the front axle).

Quite possible that non TC equiped rangies have a 2 pin rear diff to go with the front, so Wammers you might not be so wrong :p

I have a 1999 DSE and it has two pin diffs front and rear and four wheel TC. As standard the petrol 4.6 had two pin front, four pin rear. Makes sense they should add a four pin to front of petrol for TC. But as far as i am aware diesels all have two pin diffs front and rear.

Looks like you're right Wammers. I've been on Microcat and it seems most were 2 pin rear diffs. The version of mcrocat I have, doesn't even list a 4 pin front axle, it just shows a 4 pin rear. I checked the details of a few Vin no.s some with TC and the same 2 pin diff is shown for the TC equiped DSE's.
