Hey everyone,
I have come here to lurk and do research on what I think will be my next car. I have always wanted a Defender 90 as my Dad owned a 110 for many years as the family car.

If you have any pointers of what to avoid or what to look at then please feel free to let me know!

Looking forward to learning some more.

Dave

Hello and Welcome to the Loonyzone.

may be worth your while doing a search for buying ,as this has been covered a few times in the past.

But, as a starter, a budget you are looking at would help? , are you looking for a fixer upper? is it going to be a daily driver? if yes, have you ever driven a 90 as a daily driver? are you handy with a set of spanners? what are you going to use it for? Do you know anyone you can take along who knows Defenders?

Good luck

Cheers

Hi Neilly,
I am pretty handy with a set of spanners. I have more expertise in fixing and restoring motorcycles than cars however. I haven't driven a Defender and agree this would be a pretty good first step. Currently I work from home so isn't super important to be a daily driver/commuter. I fancy doing some off-roading at some point and occasional long journeys.

No one I know of locally that has one that I can try it out. Being in Northampton I saw 1000's of Defenders a few weeks ago at Billing festive while I was passing. Really should have gone in.

You need to drive one first to see if you actually like it. A defender is a utility vehicle, it doesn't have the soft driving feel of a car, everything is more 'live', especially steering and gears. I'd go to a secondhand showroom to do that. Actually buying one through private sales. Try and find someone who knows landys to do all this with you.

As said it depends on your budget and expectations. Mine's probably worth around 4k on a good day and I tend to look at it as a rolling restoration although it does get used and abused now and again
