Seems a shame for it to be sat all on its own for this long.
Unfortunately I have a hengine to rebuild so until the series is back up and running it’s all stop. Another week or two and I’ll be back at it.

Having said this....................... One of my slipped disks has been on the move for a few weeks and on Friday it let go. Ruddy eck

I have been on some very strong doctor type chit for a few days so been mostly sleeping, only interrupted by short bouts of moaning like a five dollar ho.

Will it ever end

Just a little diversion today (I’m still not up to heaving weight around).

Need a little panel to show battery state and would rather drink petrol than fitting a modern LED readout so going to make my own.


Got an old tester dial and picked up a simple press button. Just waiting for a red lens for gorgeousness. I’ll also wack a couple of LEDs in the dial so when you test the button the lights come in and it shows you how many Giggaliters are left in mi battery.
The copper sheet is a new PCB board. It’s fibreglass with a copper foil. I have attacked it in the photo to make it look almost as old as me.

That is a thing of beauty.

I'd be tempted to turn it into the button!

Early days as I want to disguise the diesel heater control on it anorl. The one I have is the simple push button type but it still lights up like a Christmas tree.

I like it’s lack of neon blue.
If I can root out some Land Rover dash power socket thingies I’ll chuck them in it but probably just for kicks. I can’t see me needing to use them.

Wouldn’t it be nice to include a brass sight tube for the diesel heater tank

Unfortunately it’s riveted into the body so will have to be removed for fitting. Same with the loop on the top. To make it a nice fit I’m going to try the seal out of a plumbing waste pipe as it’s the only triangular ring I can think of.

A little taster to wet your oxidised flanges.
I know it’s been a while and I have a backlog of purchases awaiting transformation to adorn the gentleman’s mobile club.
A little peep inside shows the beginnings of a kitchenette. Naturally a gentleman wouldn’t undertake domestic duties while on expedition but one needs somewhere to keep the ships biscuits and port.

The outside is now awaiting insulation and outer skin. Most of the electrics have been completed excluding routing the rear light clusters but that’s only half an hours cussing away.


It looks a little larger than it actually is in the photos but more than adequate as one’s base camp for hostelry exploration.

What are you doing the outer skin in?

It has been designed to take 8mm birch ply. Once fitted it will be routed on the edges to create a softer look.
It will then be soaked in multiple coats of a very thin epoxy solution to stabilise the timber and finished in traditional coachwork enamels.

I haven’t touched it for quite a few months and have stored it in a neighbouring lockup until the series is back on the road. With a bit of luck and the patience of my generous lockup neighbour I should be back at it in a couple of months.
