The upgraded solenoid interests me, I think I am just about to have to change the one on our dreaded GM 5 speed!

REZO Apart from the gearbox what I would suggest for such a trek is to upgrade to ventilated Brembos all round, otherwise you will be chewing though pads and discs.
As lond as the torque converter hasn't already suffered damage and poisoned the rest of the hydraulic circuit. 🤔

i dont know what route you are taking but you would probably need a good offroad caravan because the roads into china are quite rugged and also getting through Russia now could be quite intresting .
last time i was there the in China you had to have a guide and if you dont have room in your car then you have to hire a 4 wheel drive and driver for the guide. And also when we were ther the route that was approved was changed at the last miniute and we had to go through mongolia and then reenter across another boarder and when we were in Mogolia getting visas renewed the vehicles were not allowed back in so the drivers were but the vehicles were not. My P 38 was the carrier for the guide and there were 6 motor bikes doing this trip meant to be ending in Thiland . The bikes were eventually air freighted to Bankock but i had to get get a transit visa for Russia and drive from Ulan Batar to Latvia in 10 days .
While i was in mongolia i met a frenchman that was doing around the world using human power only he had just crossed from alaska across the bearing strait in witer by towin a sled across the ice with his provisions but it wasnt solid ice and in some places had to swim then walk down the east coast of Russia where he could cycle from there .the rules were he could not use ferrys with motor to cross river but could row could not use saling boats had to cross the equator twice . i lost contact with him and dont know if he ever finished the task
Any way i always carried spares like an intank pump for the P38, Brake pads a spare eas pump and repair kit i also had a nanacom radiator hoses brake pipes wheel bearings a cv joint ball joints snow chains oil filter air filter punture repair kit .
i have driven across Russia about 6 times and also been through Kazakstan Usbeckistan Kyrgestan and in 1972 drove from England to South Africa in a series 2 A Landrover
