hi
I am in the process of a full rebuild of my 1994 110 200 tdi defender and i am having a little problem with it overheating. I have changed the radiator, thermostate, all the pipes and new temp sender and have filled it up like the manual says BUT after about 5 minutes the temp gauge goes in to the red, now the rad is not very hot but the head feels quite warm whats up?
I have also bled the system twice how it says in the manual, can anyone offer and advice?
Cheers Adam

When you say rebuild do you mean you have just rebuilt the engine?

Sounds like a blockage/lack off flow due to the speed it is heating up. I know you have said you fitted a new one but is the thermostat opening? Is it the correct one? Is the radiator new or secondhand? If secondhand it could be gunked up inside. Is the temp sender the correct one? Have you checked the actual coolant temperature yourself? Have you checked for air locks? Are all the hoses feeling like they are full of coolant. If you hold the hoses while revving the engine can you feel the coolant flowing through?
