i have a 1995 3.9L D90 that has a tendency to run hot either while running around town for 10 min or immediately after i exit the highway to slower speed on back roads. Never in the red, but damn close. Been like this for 3-4 months now. Thus far i have replaced the thermostat, gauge, and flushed the rad.
Interestingly enough, and i have no clue if one has to do with the other, i recently changed the plugs and wires for no other reason than they were due. Perhaps one of you can explain why, but she ran cooler, or normal. The following day I drove 400 miles and she ran great. No heating issues at all. She was parked for a few days, then on my return she started acting up again. I cut the ignition off, gave a five count, then on and the gauge returned to normal and stayed there for about 15 minutes. So the problem is not solved. Someone told me it was coincidence, that plugs and wires have nothing to do with temp? any thoughts?
Someone mentioned to check the ground off the temp gauge. How can i determine if i am running the proper current assuming the ground is installed correctly?
