Need an overdrive for my Defender. Anyone know the pros and cons between the GKN and the Paynes unit. I know the GKN is a bit more expensive, but do you get any more for your money?

Seasonal eatings & greetings to all

GKN is a electrionic engaged unit. there's only one defender in singapore which has it.

the other is a rover drive unit, manually engaged via a lever, similar to that of the series landy over drive unit.

Hi Frank,

I had a look at the Roverdrive site but I would prefer an electrically engaged unit. I also contacted Tim Payne regarding his unit. Bad news is that it is still a prototype and will not be in production for 12-18 months, pity. It does sound a better unit than the GKN one as it has bigger bearings and a stronger input shaft. So sounds a better deal than the GKN unit as he is looking to charge about £900 for it. Thanks for your help.

Matt:)
