Hi
Does anyone know the before and after MPG for a 2.25 petrol fitted with a OD.
Been thinking of fitting a Overdrive to save some fuel but i would like to have some numbers as to how much differance they make.

Also where is best to get a good quite one Fle bay or bite the bullet and go for a new one.

Not intrested in top end but would like a quiter cheeper ride.

Hi
In years past , my one gave me a rise from @18 on the motorway , to @24 - sadly , it's really difficult to make the money back , but I think most folk agree the reduction in noise is nice to have. And I just loved having that 4th lever!

I couldn't exactly say how much more I get since fitting an overdrive to my series two in 2006 - it's definitely more but probably only a few mpg. What is nice though is hearing that petrol engine purring along at much lowere revs than before - if you want to spend more time on road then they are worth it but its not worth paying a grand for a brand new overdrive unless you are going to take the vehicle to the grave with you! I managed to find (what seems) a good SH fairey overdrive off ebay for £275.00 but you have got to know what you are looking for as there are people out there passing off dog rough and knackered overdrives as "good to go for years"!! If you are mad enough to fork out for a new one then the Rocky Mountain "Roverdrive" would appear to be the best design but they are made in Canada. However, there must now be a british importer.

I don't know if this; Ashcroft Transmissions would be of any interest to you clivees?
Suppose if your current transfer box has got some headache like mine has it might be worth considering and you get higher gearing for about the same/less than a possibly knackered s/h overdrive. I know that there are a few drawbacks with it too like losing your normal high box ratios so probably not so good if you do any towing.

Has anyone fitted one of these? Any good?

Yer'd struggle ter git yer money 'back' Clive. My O/D cost me £200 & with the mileage, espesh' the motorway miles I was doing, it'd only take me a year ter git me money back. On me V8 it made the difference between 16mpg & about 20mpg, maybe a bit more, but I was doing a lot of miles.

Should also consider less wear on yer injun running at lower revs in the equation, but I'd balance this against you will go a couple of miles an hour faster, betcha, you just will. Oh, and anything other than the Mway I find it a real fag engaging and disengaging the O/D, it just doesn't seen worth it! Might just be me V tho', it's only really worth engaging it on Mways & dual carraigeways!

I just recently had a Roverdrive fitted to my S-III and like DrBeast have gone from 17-18 mpg to 24-25 mpg. I am probably driving it a little faster than I used to just because you can but I expect to settle down eventually. Don't know how much that will change the mileage. I am planning on keeping it for ever so the investment didn't seem to hurt quite as bad. I like that it gets better mileage, is quieter, doubles the gear selection options (especially nice is splitting the 3rd to 4th gear option on hills) and reduces wear and tear on the 2 1/4. The guys at Roverdrive are great and build a top notch product. For me it wasn't just about the mileage so it is definitely worth it.
