AAAArrrghhh!
This is what happens when you let someone else drive your pride and joy!
I had to let one of my employees use the Series III last week, anyway I got in to drive it today and the feckin overdrive lever is bent by 20 degrees and is swinging around...

I can only assume that he tried to get it in to overdrive without using the clutch and forced it so hard he's bent the lever. Now when you 'screw' the lever into position and push forward to engage the bent lever means you can't select 4th...

I'm going to have to bend it back into position.

Is he likely to have caused any damage in the overdrive unit by doing this?

cheers
Richard

Another possibility is the selector fork is clamped to the shaft and can slide out of position. Easy to see if you take the inspection cover off the top and you can usually see where the selector is usually clamped by a colour difference as it not been covered in hot EP for the last 30 odd years.

great,
Thanks for all the help, I'll have a detailed look this afternoon, either way it looks like it can be fixed easily, thank goodness the overdrive system seems to be made of industrial scale parts! Not the caramac and cotton wool system I had on my old Scimitar!

I notice you referred to an employee... who has damaged your S3... surely you should be referring to your ex-employee?

My overdrive kind of fouls the gear stick a small amount, i just live with it :)
