my 2000 p38 vogue has been running great for over 2 years, then all of a sudden, a few problems at once.

firstly, the radio. its developed a loud metallic echoing and interferance noise. always there whether its in radio or cd. just about hear the music in the background.

secondly, the engine runs a bit lumpy, had a service and changed the plugs, mechanic thinks it could be a coil? its got a gas conversion and it runs the same on gas and petrol.

anyone any ideas on the most common reasons for both these things?

thanks in advance guys.

If it is a coil - they could both be connected, cos the coil will interfere with the radio frequency... I remember the old days of motoring when an old car went past with a dodge set of leads and the radio went all crackly....

cheers guys, never occured to me they could be connected.

mechanic said if i take it back, he would test to see if it was a coil before replacing, although at moment, he is 90% sure it would be.

If its 'barely' then it is still missing slightly and should be able to be diagnosed easily using the simplest methods.
Good luck with it, you've done well to get 2 years lol.

How lumpy does it run? Each coil provides 2 plugs so if its missing/weak on 2, theres your problem.

If you have the later Thor engine, you have two coils. Leads and plugs are favorite items. Get some BPR6ES plugs, a new set of leads and then coils if this doesnt fix it. Again if you have the later Audio system, the amp in back are prone to water / moisture damage du to where they are fitted behind the sub box, near side rear quarter.

For sure. The modern audio systems are well sheilded from interference, have you tried all the DSP settings to see if that makes a difference, Diver, Spatial, Off ?
