Replaced the original oil seal on the front output shaft but actually made the leak worse.
Can someone confirm which way round the seal goes as I plan to have another attempt, replacing the retainer at the same time as I may have damaged the original removing the old seal.
Any photos would be appreciated

Thank you for your responce :) , I did fit it this way round as I reckoned it would support the shaft better though I probably damaged the retainer removing the old seal. Will replace both once the retainer arrives, fingers crossed:eek:

Sometimes the inner spring comes off when fitting oil seals, you can add some grease to the inner spring are to stop the spring coming off. Also push the seal in if you can, you also need to lube the running surface before fitting.

Also if you have bought a shiitpart seal, i would bin it and buy a genuine seal. Otherwise you will be likely to be doing the whole job again in about 12 months time!

thanks for the reply, alittle confused as I don't recall seeing a spring:confused:
A quick recap, remove front prop shaft, split pin, castelled nut/washer and the flange comes away. Undo bolts holding seal retainer. Push out seal.
I have now replaced the retainer with a new genuine part and the seal which is now made from neuopene??? (the original seal was metal with a leather like insert with a spring inside)

Refit and still leaks slightly, the torque for the castelled nut states 80 lbs, this was abit hit and miss as my torque wrench only goes to 60, would this make any difference?
Thanks in advance;)
