G'day, this is only slightly off-topic...

After I finish this holiday, I've realised that I'm going to be in a bit of
a fix because I won't have access to my ISP and therefore won't be able to
log into their news server.
For a year or so I will have to travel and will be getting net access from
friend's networks or hacking wifi spots as I move with my nav computer in
the Disco. Does anybody know of a news server that doesn't require direct
access (ie, one that I can log into from various locations and internet
providers).
Oh, and did I mention that it needs to be free ...only the Disco is
priveliged enough to get money spent on her (and the wife every now and
then - otherwise life becomes really hard).

cheers, Craig.

http://news.individual.net/

Text only (no binary groups).

That will be tricky. Individual.net used to be free, but a while ago they
had to introduct a token 10 euro fee.

I'd vote for news.individual.net E10 is roughly £7 and well worth it.
They actively support the service and are pretty quick at blocking
floods. That could be quite important over bandwidth limited or pay per
byte links... It's also a fast, reliable and well connected server.

I'll go along with that - it's so cheap as to be more or less irrelevant and
better service than many ISPs.

Try aioe.cjb.net

I've been using them for about 6 months. A bit up and down sort of service,
but for free, well who can complain.

Not free, but at 10 Euros per year it's close enough, and far more reliable
than others I've tried - I liked it so much when it was free that I bought
the subscription when it wasn't! (and yes, I do get a free news service
through my ISP - it's reliability is rubbish!).

Good luck and enjoy your travels!
